Astronomy Club

The purpose of the Astronomy Club is to promote general awareness of science and mathematics through the conduit of astronomy and to help interested parties learn about the configuration of the night sky, the empirical basis of modern astronomical theory, and the variety of celestial objects that can be studied by the amateur astronomer. The Astronomy Club meets every few weeks for naked-eye and telescopic observation at the James Wylie Shepherd Observatory and hosts events for interested groups on and off campus.

The Astronomy Club, and its sister organization the Montevallo Astronomical Society, will meet at the Shepherd Observatory on specified dates for celestial viewing that is free and open to the general public:

NASA: One of the best sources of astronomy information and imagery

CalSKY: The “most complete” database of astronomical events with dates

Shepherd Observatory: University of Montevallo observatory project
